If you love your blush ridiculously pigmented and true-to-pan, then this blush might be up your alley! On the other hand, if you were hoping for the buildable formula that Becca describes, you’ll find this to be much too intense. The pigmentation is rich where you don’t need much (the barest tap of the brush on the surface yielded plenty of noticeable color on my cheeks), and the saving grace is the formula remained quite blendable, which is really a must with such an opaque shade as this one. The more I blended it out, the less orange and more of a warm red it looked on my skin tone, but it may look redder or more orange depending on your coloring. The texture was firmer and less dry compared to the shimmery shades, but it wasn’t stiff. The color stayed put for almost nine hours before there was any color breakdown.
Formula Summary | Becca Mineral Blush ($32.00 for 0.20 oz.) is supposed to be a “delicate powder blush” with a “buildable formula” that gives a “natural-looking, flushed appearance.” They typically have a soft, creamy consistency that is a little denser than the average powder but not truly dense. Some of the very shimmery shades feel a little dry compared to the more pearly ones. I found the formula to be incredibly easy to apply and blend on the skin without any need for special tricks; they felt very grab-and-go, the kind of blush where there’s no fight to diffuse and soften edges or get even coverage. They are more pigmented than what I’d term as “buildable,” which some will appreciate, some will be disappointed by. The wear ranges from seven to nine hours with the brighter and more satin-to-matte shades lasting longer. My favorite part of the formula is the luminous sheen they give to the skin, so they don’t look too shimmery on the skin. I think if you find Becca’s pressed highlighters to be too shimmery, you may find their blushes more up your alley with respect to finish.

The texture was soft, blendable, and lightweight on the skin and looked natural without being visibly shimmery. It wasn’t fully opaque, but the coverage was semi-opaque and then buildable up to full coverage in two layers. When I tested it, the color lasted for almost nine hours before fading noticeably.
Formula Summary | Too Faced Love Flush Blush ($26.00 for 0.21 oz.) is supposed to be an exceptionally long-wearing (16 hours), pigmented, and “buttery soft” blush. It’s a nice blush, but unsurprisingly, it doesn’t last 16 hours. Some shades last eight hours, others last a little closer to ten hours–it is nice wear for powder blush generally, but you’ll find that many shades’ ratings took a hit because of the 16-hour wear claim. The blush has a soft texture that’s just firm enough not to kick up a lot of excess powder, but it’s not too firm where you can’t get good color payoff when you use it. Pigmentation varied from shade to shade and ranged from semi-opaque to totally opaque, while the blush tended to blend well on the skin with a satin to luminous finish. The compacts may be a little hard to open if you have larger fingers/hands (like me), and sometimes I felt like the pattern made it harder to get good pigmentation out of the blush if I used a more feathery brush.

NARS Blame It On NARS Blush Palette ($59.00 for 0.56 oz.) includes a highlighter, bronzer, and two blushes, plus a traval-sized ITA brush. I have reviewed most of these shades before, so the list of similar shades is pretty up-to-date, so rather than pull a new link, I’ve included the current lists as they stand. I did test each of these versions for wear, pigmentation, application, and so forth. I think the packaging is really cool, but I wish the compact didn’t feel so bulky. I really like some of NARS’ blushes, but there are a fair amount that have been misses for me. This palette is a bit of a mixed bag, and I find there is too much variance from release to release.
It may seem expensive initially, but each powder is 0.14 oz., while a full-sized highlighter/blush from NARS is 0.16 oz. and costs $30. The bronzer is larger at 0.28 oz. and retails for $39. You’re getting 0.42 oz. of blush, which is a value of $78.75. You’re getting 0.14 oz. of bronzer, which is a value of $19.50. The kit has $98.25 worth of powder products and then whatever value the ITA would bring in (full-size retails for $55, which I don’t have, so I can’t comment on the quality between the two, but I do not like the travel version at all, as it is very scratchy, rough, poorly cut, and sheds).
Satellite of Love is described as a “sparkling gold sand.” It’s sort of apt, because it is a muted, medium brown with warmer, orange undertones and larger gold sparkle that tends to separate from the base powder, so not as much sticks to the skin or gets trapped in your brush. The version in the palette seems a little smoother but drier than the one I have as an individual pan (it is permanent), and it didn’t seem to emphasize pores this time around. It is a Highlighting Blush, so it is a more buildable product, though the best case was semi-opaque. The color wore for seven hours before fading. Surratt Beauty Grisaille (P, $32.00) is more shimmery. NARS Jubilation (Right) (P, ) is less shimmery, more pigmented, brighter, darker. Chanel Mouche de Beaute Illuminating Powder (LE, $80.00) is darker, more pigmented. View all similar shades on The Dupe List!

Of the shades I’ve tried, this one seemed to have the least shimmer and sheen, but it wasn’t quite matte; as I buffed and blended the powder into the skin, it retained a natural finish that was less than a true satin but definitely not matte. It had mostly opaque color payoff (which makes it less true to the “buildable” quality of the formula), which may be great for some but too much work for others. I would recommend using a lighter hand or a more feathery brush to start off with this to figure out how much (or little) you need for your particular skin tone and application style. The texture was firmer than all of the other shades, and there was a slight dryness to it yet it wasn’t really stiff. It wasn’t quite as easily blended out as the majority of the line, but it wasn’t a lot of extra effort in comparison, which was good news. This shade wore for eight and a half hours before fading around the edges.

MAC Sophisticate Face Kit ($49.50 for 0.43 oz.) includes six eyeshadows, two blushes, and two lipsticks. Worth pointing out right away is that the back of my palette says the second blush on the left is Simply Bliss, whereas Nordstrom’s product listing had Cream Soda in its place; I checked both of them, and the blush in this palette is slightly more pink-tinted and a little lighter but not by much.
Linda is described as a “peachy tan shimmer.” It’s a muted, medium-dark orange-copper with hints of brown and warmer undertones paired with a pearly sheen. It was slightly powdery with semi-opaque coverage that wore for eight hours. Becca Songbird (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Becca Rose Gold (P, $41.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Becca Blushed Copper (LE, $38.00) is less shimmery, lighter, darker. Illamasqua Expose (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker, more pigmented. MAC Coppertone (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler. MAC Blazing Haute (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, lighter. NARS Soulshine #2 (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, cooler. NARS Gina (P, $30.00) is darker. MAC Eternal Sun (P, $23.50) is darker, more muted. Colour Pop Bonus (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, darker, brighter. MAC Seduced at Sea (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker. NARS Frenzy (Right) (P, ) is more shimmery, darker. MAC Pleasure Model (LE, $25.00) is darker. MAC Bad Girl Gone Good (LE, $21.00) is darker. Wedge is described as a “soft muted beige taupe.” It’s a muted, medium yellowed brown with a matte finish. It seems a bit lighter than the permanent version of Wedge to me. It had sheerer coverage with a dusty texture. The color lasted for seven hours on me. Urban Decay Naked (P, $18.00) is less pigmented, more pigmented. Jane Rock Star (DC, ) is lighter. Kat Von D Harlow (P, ) is darker. Ulta Sable (, ) is less shimmery. theBalm C3 (LE, $16.00) is darker, less pigmented, more muted, lighter. View dupes side-by-side.

Giorgio Armani No. 17 Fluid Sheer ($62.00 for 1.0 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plummy brown with warm undertones and soft shimmer in hues of pink and gold. The texture felt lightweight and was thin but not as thin as the average shade is in this range. It had sheer coverage that produced a very light hint of color but primarily sheen on my medium skin tone, though layered two or three times gives more noticeable color. It blended out well and looked even applied. On me, the color wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. Charlotte Tilbury Formentera (P, $45.00) is less shimmery, warmer. Surratt Beauty La Vie En Rose (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, more pigmented, cooler. Becca Raspberry/Opal (P, $27.00) is more shimmery, more pigmented, cooler. bareMinerals Golden Gate Radiance (LE, $19.00) is cooler. MAC Scene to Be Seen (Inner) (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, brighter, more pigmented. Giorgio Armani Light Rose (LE, ) is more shimmery, more pigmented, cooler. Bobbi Brown Nude Beach (LE, $26.00) is less shimmery. NARS Lovejoy (P, $30.00) is darker, more pigmented, cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA SUMMARY | Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer ($62.00 for 1.0 fl. oz.) is available in fifteen shades that range from sheer beige to sheer yellow to sheer copper. The formula is supposed to “dress skin in an illuminating veil of radiance.” It’s designed to be sheer, though some shades are more buildable than others, and in general, the darker hued shades are going to appear more pigmented and can be used as highlighting blushes or even as blushes (depending on your skin tone) — the brand actually calls out it can be used as “an eyeshadow base, blush, or bronzer” as well as your typical highlighter. It can be used alone, mixed with base products (like foundation, primer, or moisturizing). Some shades are glittery, others are shimmery, and others have very fine shimmer. Alone, I tend to get seven to eight hours of wear with lighter, shimmery shades and closer to ten hours or longer with some of the bolder shades, and it doesn’t seem to impact the wear of my base products (either shortening or lengthening the wear). I like fingertips or a duo-fiber/stippling brush for application using a patting and dabbing motion rather than a lot of sweeping, then a light buffing to diffuse and blend out the edges.

The blush had good, mostly opaque color payoff with great ease, and at this point, I’m honestly surprised Becca went with a “buildable” marketing push on these when the majority of the range is rather pigmented! The texture is soft, lightly dense and almost creamy, with excellent blendability–it nearly applied itself as it was diffusing as I applied it. While it had a more shimmery finish than some shades in the line-up, it didn’t emphasize pores and sat naturally on the skin. The finish is definitely more subdued than Becca’s more famous pressed highlighters, as a reference point. On me, the powder wore for just over eight hours before I could tell it was fading.

The formula is described as having vivid and “translucent, vibrant color” with a “flirty, natural-looking flush” that goes on “like a powder but feels like a cream.” They have a very similar texture as the Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators I reviewed earlier this year, which I totally fell in love with. The texture has a smooth, denser feel to it that has good color payoff that’s incredibly easy to blend out on the skin. The pigmentation varies from shade to shade, but they are generally quite pigmented. Cantaloupe had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff with a luminous sheen; there was subtle shimmer but it wasn’t detectable on the skin. This particular shade is more suitable for fairer complexions, as the lighter color is too similar to my natural skin tone to be visible other than as more of a highlighter/sheen. It has a really smooth, blendable texture that sat well on the skin without emphasizing its natural texture. On me, the color lasted for seven and a half hours before fading.

MAC Style Maven Face Kit ($49.50 for 0.43 oz.) includes six eyeshadows, two blushes, and two lipsticks. It’s a cooler-toned, more purple-based palette. The eyeshadows are disappointing, while the blushes were decent. The lipsticks are okay, but they have a thinner consistency that makes them feel clingier applied (and Girl About Town lost some of its depth). Over the last few years, MAC palettes like these have typically been bigger disappointments, and unfortunately, this year’s Nordstrom exclusives haven’t broken that cycle.
Malt is described as a “soft pinkish beige.” It’s a softened, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish, but it doesn’t look anything like the permanent version, which has a pinky tone to it overall. Since it’s pretty different, I don’t want to muck-up the official list of dupes for the permanent version, but here’s a link that’ll show you similar shades to the one in this palette. The texture was firmer and harder to blend out, and it lasted for seven hours on me.
Performance Art is described as a “sterling silver.” It’s a gold-shimmered, pinky-mauve with a frosted sheen. This version in the palette is dominated by the gold shimmer, which gives it a more pinky-beige kind of coloring (it’s no “sterling silver” though). It had so-so pigmentation with a smooth but firm texture. It wore for almost even hours. Colour Pop Prickly Pear (LE, $5.00) is more shimmery, less pigmented, lighter. Giorgio Armani Flannel (08) (P, $38.00) is darker. Dior House of Pinks #4 (LE, ) is darker, warmer, better quality. bareMinerals Catch Me If (P, ) is lighter. Tarte Make a Mauve (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter. NARS Dolomites (Left) (LE, $24.00) is lighter, warmer. Makeup Geek Twilight (P, $5.99) is lighter. MAC After Dusk (P, $16.00) is lighter, more muted. View dupes side-by-side.
Girl About Town is described as a “bright blue fuchsia.” It’s a brightened, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. The permanent version of this has a lot more pigmentation and depth, and the finish is more luminous. This version wore for four and a half hours and left a stain behind but was on the drying side. Urban Decay Menace (P, $22.00) is darker. MAC Tats (LE, $16.00) is cooler, more muted. Clinique Punch Pop (P, $18.00) is brighter, glossier, lighter. MAC Hollywood Cerise (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler. Bite Beauty #004 (LE, $36.00) is brighter, lighter, cooler. MAC Impassioned (P, $16.00) is less glossy, darker, warmer. MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy, glossier, brighter, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Cooper (LE, $32.00) is cooler. Bite Beauty Framboise (P, $24.00) is darker, cooler. MAC No Faux Pas (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Catharina (P, $23.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy, less pigmented, glossier. MAC Good Kisser (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy, more pigmented, more shimmery, glossier, brighter. Bite Beauty Vigne (P, $24.00) is darker. MAC Red Balloon (LE, $16.00) is darker. Giorgio Armani No. 18 Fluid Sheer ($62.00 for 1.0 fl. oz.) is a rich, medium-dark coppery red with lighter gold sparkle. It had sheer coverage, which gives the skin a tint of color and a dewy sheen. A little went a long way, so you can achieve a stronger tint if desired. The sparkle in this shade made it harder to blend over foundation, as it seemed prone to disturbing anything underneath it, but it worked without issue on bare skin. I noticed a few bits of sparkle migrated over night as well, which isn’t a problem I’ve had with other shades in the range. The color itself wore for nine hours. NARS Na Pali Coast (P, $39.00) is less shimmery, more pigmented. MAC Pleasure Model (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, more pigmented, warmer. Illamasqua Supernatural (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Becca Rose Gold (P, $38.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Becca Blushed Copper (LE, $38.00) is more muted, more pigmented. NARS Fervor (Right) (P, ) is darker, more pigmented. NARS Mauritanie (LE, $39.00) is less shimmery. Becca Papaya/Topaz (P, $27.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented, warmer. I was expecting to review the newest Shimmer Brick for summer/fall, but I received this shade (I honestly have been so overwhelmed with new products releasing that I just photographed and reviewed without a lot of thought!), and it was only when I started putting together the written review did I notice! Oh, well, it’s a long-time favorite and has been out for awhile, so no harm in a full review, right? Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick formula is an intensely shimmered set of five strips of shades that allow you to customize the overall color (use the top half for a pinker, darker hue, while you can use the bottom half for a lighter, warmer hue) or individually. Together, they are richly pigmented and very shimmery, which gives a beautiful glow to the skin, but it can be over-applied and then emphasize pores. I like using a fan or feathery brush and a lighter hand to build up the shimmer as desired to minimize the chance of overdoing it. I felt like this particular shade was easier to apply than some of the other Shimmer Bricks I’ve tried, almost as if it was smoother with finer shimmer. This may be more of a blush, bronze, or highlighter depending on your natural skin tone. On me, it wore well for eight hours.

The color payoff of this shade was more in line with what the formula is supposed to be–buildable–as the color was semi-sheer to semi-opaque. It had a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t powdery nor was it too firm. It applied with ease, as the powder diffused softly along the edges and didn’t turn patchy or appear uneven in the end. This could be more like a satiny bronzer for some skin tones that won’t get too bright, as there is a muted quality to the color overall. On me, the blush lasted for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Guava was intensely pigmented with a soft, blendable consistency that was dense and almost cream-like but applied and blended exactly as a powder blush would. I felt like it almost melted into the skin and gave a more stained-like appearance, but it was very even (and stains can be tricky to work with for that reason, at least for me!). What’s nice about the formula is you can use less and blend out for a tint of color or apply normally and get a bold cheek look. The blush has a luminous sheen that gives it a dewy look without emphasizing pores. It wore well for almost nine hours on me before fading slightly.

Tarte Energy Noir Eye & Cheek Palette ($38.00 for 0.54 oz.) is a cooler-toned eyeshadow palette with one blush. The palette has some misses and a few nicer shades, but if you already have a few of Tarte’s palettes, you may want to check your stash–there were a lot of Tarte eyeshadows that I ended up pulling as similar shades across this palette. The mattes were on the powdery side, while the more frosted shades were more pigmented and applied better to bare skin.
As a note, the back of the packaging lists 1.91 oz. for the blush with a 5.4g weight, but when you covert 5.4 grams into oz., you get 0.19 oz. (1.91 oz. is a massive amount of product in makeup, whereas 0.19 oz. is more in line with the size of it in the palette and what you’d expect to see with the average blush).

Papaya had good pigmentation with a soft, dense texture in the pan that made the product very blendable on the skin without skipping or becoming patchy, despite its brighter color. As the blush is blended and worked into the skin, the finish becomes a real sheen rather than detectable shimmer. This shade wore for just over eight hours before fading on me.

This shade had semi-opaque to opaque coverage that applied evenly and smoothly with little effort. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and smooth to the touch, which is probably why it blended so nicely! The pearly sheen gave the skin a soft glow without emphasizing pores or the skin’s natural texture, and if you don’t like to see visible shimmer, this might be one to consider as translates it all sheen. This is another shade that may also work as a bronzer for some skin tones, depending on how warm and mid-tone you like yours. When I tested the blush, the color wore well for eight hours before fading.

Plumberry was incredibly pigmented with full color coverage easily achieved if desired, which means it’s a good idea to use a lighter hand and/or feathery brush if you want sheerer coverage. The texture has a smooth, dense feel to it where the color applies and blends out easily while feeling lightweight. There’s a subtle sheen to the finish that doesn’t translate into overt shimmer, and it doesn’t emphasize pores. On my skin, the blush wore well for eight and a half hours before fading.

NARS 413 Blkr Blush Duo ($42.00 for 0.35 oz.) is supposed to have a “soft highlight” and a “pop of pink” that can each be worn on their own or layered for a “natural flush.” It is exclusive to NARS’ boutiques and their website. It is larger than a full-size blush in terms of the compact’s size, but it is also over double the amount of product, so you’re actually getting over two full-sized blushes in this compact. Both shades were dusty and a little powdery to work with, so they didn’t sit as well on the skin as I would have liked. Both shades were blendable, at least, but I wish they lasted longer.
413 Blkr (Highlighter) is described as a “sparkling pink sand with gold and silver shimmer.” It’s a softened, light peachy-pink with gold shimmer. The texture was powdery and drier, so it was harder to get good coverage out of it. When I applied it, the finish was more semi-matte to satin than illuminating and slightly dusty/dry on. On my medium complexion, I get some color out of it, but it is subtle, so for fairer complexions, it could definitely be used as a blush. It wore well for six and a half hours on me. MAC Blush Pink (LE, $35.50) is less shimmery. Laura Mercier Sunset (LE, $24.00) is darker, warmer. Dior Peach Splendor (LE, $44.00) is darker. MAC Fun Ending (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. Surratt Beauty Duchesse (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer. Physicians Formula Natural (P, $12.99) is more shimmery, darker. NARS Sex Appeal (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, darker. Benefit Georgia (DC, $28.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
413 Blkr (Blush) is described as a “cherry blossom pink with a hint of gold shimmer.” It’s a brightened, light-medium pink with subtle, warmer undertones and fine gold pearl. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage (up to semi-opaque) with a lightly dry, dusty consistency. It looked a little powdery on my skin with some sheen. This shade wore well for seven hours before fading. Urban Decay Crush (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler. NYX Mauve (P, $5.00) is darker, more muted. MAC P.S. I Like You (LE, $22.00) is more pigmented, warmer, glossier. Colour Pop Early Bird (P, $8.00) is darker. Chanel Crescendo (250) (LE, $45.00) is darker, more muted. LORAC Underrated (LE, ) is more muted. MAC Modest Blush (LE, $27.00) is lighter. Chanel Revelation (63) (P, $38.00) is glossier. NARS New Attitude (LE, $30.00) is cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

The pigmentation varies from shade to shade, but they are generally quite pigmented. Rosewater had semi-opaque, buildable coverage, but I found it was the least pigmented blush of the five from the range. I think it may be perfect coverage for fairer skin tones who like a subtle blusher, though. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable, but I noticed more shimmer/sparkle in this one on the skin–not quite enough to emphasize pores but more visible than the other four shades. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading on my skin.

The Colorful Blush formula is supposed to be long-wearing, buildable, and have a lightweight texture. My experience with the formula has shown that they’re soft, lightly powdery at times (some are worse than others) with semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage that blends fairly well and lasts seven to eight hours. There is some variance between shades, but there are some gems in the range. The texture of this shade was drier and powdery, though it was as loose as Tranquil so it seemed more forgiving applied. The finish is mostly matte, so if it is lighter than your natural skin tone, you may find it gives the illusion of highlight, but on my skin tone, it looks almost like a beige-y blush or face powder. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation that was noticeably faded after seven hours of wear.
P.S. — You may be seeing some inconsistency in photo sizes in the next week or two, as we will be increasing the size of our images, but photos that were already processed earlier will be in the previous size. Thanks for understanding
